Dr. Baby Chakrapani P. S

Neuroscientist & Project Director

Dr. Baby Chakrapani P. S. is a dedicated neuroscientist with a passion for translating brain science into real-world impact. He currently serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at CUSAT and holds dual leadership roles as Director of the Centre for Neuroscience and Director (in-charge) of the Centre of Excellence in Neurodegeneration and Brain Health (CENABH).

Dr. Chakrapani earned his Ph.D. from the prestigious Centre for Neuroscience, University of Freiburg, Germany, and further advanced his research expertise through fellowships at the National University of Singapore and the Van Andel Research Institute in the USA. He has also trained in neuroimaging techniques at the Harvard Center for Biological Imaging.

Beyond academia, he is a visionary leader in public engagement, having founded Prajna, a pioneering initiative that bridges neuroscience and society by promoting brain health awareness. He also led Udbodh, a transformative project that helped declare the Cochin Corporation as India’s first Dementia-Friendly City. With numerous scientific publications, international collaborations, major research grants, and patents to his name, Dr. Chakrapani continues to shape the future of applied neuroscience in both research and social innovation. His unique background is complemented by his experience as a university football team captain, giving him firsthand insight into the intersection of science and sports.

Role at Synaptom: As Project Director and lead neuroscientist, Dr. Chakrapani is the chief architect of the NeuroCyte and NeuroBlast programs. He provides the core scientific vision, develops the neuroscience-based curriculum, and leads the multidisciplinary team to ensure every intervention is grounded in the latest research.
